P&D has for more than 20 years dressed many homes in the Hollywood Hills and Los Feliz neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
This part of town is highly coveted, because of it’s many beautiful natural elements and central location to basically everything that Los Angeles
has to offer. The many trees in the neighborhood give homeowners and visitors alike the feel of being out in nature.
The central artery to Griffith Park, the Observatory and the Hollywood Hills, is Los Feliz Blvd. A street that for the most the day, every day, is predictably bumper-to-bumper traffic. Even with the traffic, locals love the area and work around the traffic as best they are able to manage.

In 2007, celebrity hair stylist and WEN hair products creator, Chaz Dean, moved into the hills of Los Feliz. In the years that followed, he swooped up neighboring homes. We would get tidbits of information from various neighbors whose homes we’d design for about Chaz’ adventures in town.
The topic went from novelty to concern when it was announced that Chaz had pulled permits to demolish all the homes he had purchased to build a monstrous compound, the largest home ever in Los Feliz. If you’re familiar with the area, you know that the homes are old and pretty, and that the streets are only narrow enough for one car to access at a time. Personally, with the trends for reducing and not expanding, I don’t understand why anyone anywhere is still considering mega-homes. “Old Money” will usually tell you that these are decisions often made by New Money.
For people like me with No Money, the spectacle is interesting to observe from afar.

It’ll be interesting to see where this all ends, and what updates we get from our friends in the Hills. We’ll keep you updated. For now, we design beautiful privacy shades for those affected by the construction.

2017 Palm Springs Modernism Week Preview

I am a modernist. I very much enjoy everything that the word modern represents, from all time periods. Simple, uncluttered, playful, elegant, etc. I can go on and on.

The desert communities of Southern California offer some of the finest examples of mid-century modern homes. Getting into these homes required knowing the owners or a shameless site visit. That is, until Modernism Week organized in 2009 to offer a week of home tours every Spring as a way to raise money for scholarships geared toward assisting local design and architecture students with tuition expenses.

The event gives attendees the rare opportunity to visit some of the most iconic architectural gems in the Coachella Valley, by renowned architects. It also gives the curious a rare view into the homes currently or previously owned by entertainment luminaries. Stars such as Frank Sinatra, Liberace, etc. It’s fun sometimes, just to peek into another person’s life., especially celebrities.

As of 4 years ago, a preview show and sale in the Fall gives early birds a glimpse at what is in store for the official Modernism Week the following Spring. The event is a 3 night event featuring live music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and exhibitions by some 40+ specialty vendors of home goods and products of interest to the true modernist.

We’ll be attending this year again because it’s much fun. We hope to see you there!
